MUSIC: Denver Boot & Ravi Shavi Give The Salon A New Hair-Do

Ravi Shavi
Ravi Shavi played a spectacular opening set with Rhode Island College Film & Communications Professor Philip Palombo catching the entire performance on his IPhone. A great performance including "Accidental Mental", "InDecision", "Birds", "Bobbie's Hobbies", "Vacation Holiday", "Local News" and "Cocaine Carpet Highway" had everyone movin' and a groovin' with Jim Galvin's howling guitar blowing minds like a stick of dynamite in a gun powder factory while frontman Rafay Rashid was struttin' his stuff with his legendary stage presence and antics. A sound that makes me think of everything Iggy Pop has touched, garage rock like The Hives and Royal Headache and old-school soul, R&B and doo-wop had the crowd in an absolute frenzy. They have an EP out now that you gotta get your hands on the next time Ravi Shavi plays as well as a debut album in the works. Definitely one of the bands in Providence you have to keep an eye on.
The Denver Boot
The Denver Boot with Tony Nimmo providing the backbone on drums, John Frost pluckin' the banjo, Amato Zinno holding it down on upright bass along with Billy Moretti's elegant acoustic guitar and his soothing voice had the audience clapping non-stop. A fantastic set including "Keep It Close" "Cold Water", "I Disagree", "Where It Begins and Ends", "Spare Change", "Sensible Man", "Send The Line" and "Farewell" made it feel like you were in some type of urban hoedown, everyone was line dancing and clapping their hands to the rhythms. The Denver Boot has their debut album 6 to 9, 7...12 currently available anywhere on the Internet and at their live shows. An album that I highly suggest you get. You can check out when the next kickass show is at The Salon on the calendar that's on display on their front door or you can log on to www.thesalonpvd.com for everything you need to know.
