NEW: Providence Named America's Most Exciting Mid-Sized City

Providence tops the list for America's 10 Most Exciting Mid-Sized Cities released Wednesday by Movoto.com.

Citing the city's youth (37 percent of the population is between 18-34 years old), the thriving local music scene, and the great dining, but most significantly the nightlife, Providence ranked number one on the list.

Other New England cities on the list include New Haven, CT (6); Hartford, CT (12); Worcester, MA (14); Stamford, CT (21); and Bridgeport, CT (29)

Methodology

Movato ranked the 117 American cities with poppulations between 120,000 and 210,000 based on six categories:

 • Nightlife per capita (bars, clubs, comedy, etc.)
 • Live music venues per capita
 • Active life options per capita (parks, outdoor activities, etc.)
 • Fast Food restaurants per capita (the fewer the better)
 • Percentage of restaurants that are fast food (the lower the better)
 • Percentage of young residents ages 20 to 34 (the higher the better)

3. Fort Collins, CO

4. Eugene, OR

5. Syracuse, NY

6. New Haven, CT

7. Fort Lauderdale, FL

8. Pasadena, CA
