NEW: Stray Baby Goat Found in Providence

Photo: Providence Animal Care Facebook page
A stray baby goat was found in Providence on Thursday -- and is now being taken care of at the Providence Animal Shelter on Terminal Road.

"The goat was found near the VA hospital on Thursday -- and they're not allowed in Providence," said Lisa Scott, who is Animal Control Officer #3 with the city.  "So even if the owner comes forth, it wouldn't go back to them unless the goat was taken out of Providence.  We have a city worker who has a family farm who has said she can take the goat if need be, she takes all of our bunnies."

"We've never gotten a goat," said Scott. "We've gotten an alligator, big snakes -- but never a goat."

Scott said she was happy for the attention on Friday.

"People don't always understand what we do here -- we care for the animals the best way we know how," said Scott. "When animals come here, we treat them extremely well. "

Story of the Goat

A post on the "Providence Animal Care" page on Facebook provided an update on Friday morning.

Ok FB Fans I thought I would give all of our concerned fans a update on our little Goat friend.

The staff has decided to name her Lilly. We thought naming her after Easter flowers would be fitting for her... This is a photo of Lilly eating her morning treat prepared by tech Brianna. So Please know that while Lilly is at the shelter for a stray hold period she will be in great hands. She gets many walks and lot of treats to help keep her Happy and healthy during her Temporary stay at the shelter.
