NEW: Vinny Paz Movie Gets Picked Up in Cannes for $4M

Vinny Pazienza
Rhode Island film producer Chad A. Verdi's "Bleed for This" about world champion fighter Vinny Pazienza has been picked up in Cannes, after a screening of a promo reel for the movie which stars a number of A-list actors.

Deadline.com reports:

After another all night bare-knuckle bidding brawl, Open Road is closing a deal for Bleed For This, the Ben Younger-directed film that stars Miles Teller as world champion fighter Vinny Pazienza and Aaron Eckhart as the trainer who helped Pazienza come back to the ring after a near fatal car crash left him with a broken neck. The deal is for $4 million and the bidding started shortly after buyers were shown a 12-minute promo reel Friday night for a film that is now in post-production. There is no set release plan, but this comeback story has big time awards season and commercial potential.

MORE ABOUT THE MOVIE

Bleed for This is the story of Rhode Island boxer and five-time world champion Pazienza as he recovers from a broken neck suffered during a near-fatal car accident. Pazienza would go on to win three more world boxing titles in one of the most improbable comebacks in the sport's history.

Signed on to star in the movie include Miles Teller as Pazienza; Katey Segal, best known for her role as Peggy Bundy on Married with Children and for her role as Gemma Teller Morrow on the FX series Sons of Anarchy, will play Paz's mom.

Ciaran Hinds (from Spielberg's Munich) will be playing Angelo; Aaron Eckhart is slated to play Pazienza trainer Kevin Rooney

Verdi is joined on the project by a distinguished team of producers and writers, including writer/director Ben Younger (Boiler Room, Prime), Oscar-winner Martin Scorcese (The Departed, Googfellas), Oscar-winning producer Bruce Cohen (American Beauty, Silver Linings Playbook), Emma Tillinger Koskoff (The Departed, The Wolf of Wall Street), Noah Kraft (Loosies). Scorcese, all-time great director and Oscar Winner for The Departed, is nominated for best director again this year for Wolf of Wall St. Verdi credits him for helping the picture come together.
