Painter Anthony Tomaselli Opens Gallery in Newport

Well-known Rhode Island painter Anthony Tomaselli is already a fixture on Thomas Street, the steep setting perhaps best-known in Providence's art world, where he is a fixture at the Providence Art Club. Now, starting this weekend, Tomaselli will establish camp at the other end of the state - on Newport's equally artful Spring Street.

Watch for a brand-new Anthony Tomaselli Gallery to open its doors on Saturday, May 28, across from Trinity Church in the historic Hill area of Newport, at 140 Spring Street.

Why a second gallery for the 18-year member of the The Providence Art Club with a studio at 9 Thomas Street, who is represented at more than 12 galleries in New England as well as in Washington, DC? “To keep the conversation going," Tomaselli said. "To inspire others while maintaining what motivates me – making art an experience of learning and teaching. To continue the process of building, renewing, and making new relationships.”

Tomaselli's bold, contemporary realism

The Newport gallery will feature Tomaselli’s bold, contemporary realism, depicting New England, city, sea and landscapes. And there's more. “Talks with Anthony Tomaselli,” informal opportunities for people to come together in the gallery for painting demos, conversation, and a little philosophy will be held most Wednesdays in the summer at 10am. Tomaselli has long taught workshops privately and through the Providence Art Club.

The Anthony Tomaselli Gallery at 140 Spring Street, Newport will be open beginning on May 28th from 10am to 8pm.  Hours will be Sunday through Thursday, 10am to 6pm, and Friday and Saturday, from 10am to 8pm.  A gala reception will be held in late June.
