Providence "Kicks Boston's Butt" in New GQ Ranking

The November issue of GQ magazine is getting a ton of attention for its risqué cover and subsequent photo spread of actors from FOX’s Glee striking suggestive poses, but what you make not have noticed right away is the announcement declaring Providence to be one of the “Coolest Small Cities in America.”

The Secret's Out

Called a “mini-opolis,” Providence ranks #11 with the distinction, “The most interesting city in New England sure isn’t Boston.” It goes on to say, “what Providence lacks in fratty Irish bars, it makes up for with a vibrant art scene and the renegade character of a bastard son.” AS220, Al Forno, E & O Tap, Julian’s, Nick’s and the Armageddon Shop are all cited in the complimentary piece. “Besides the fact that it is always fun to kick Boston’s butt, I think the GQ article validates our marketing strategy,” said Kristen Adamo, Vice President of Marketing and Communications at the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We position Providence as a quirky, hip city with a vibrant arts scene and world-class restaurants. Just this month, we’ve seen the GQ ranking, Esquire naming Cook & Brown as one of the best new restaurants in the U.S. and American Style tapping Providence as a top arts destination for the fifth consecutive year,” explained Adamo. “The word is clearly spreading.”
