RI Mentoring Partnership Awarded $20,000 to Fund Youth Mentoring

The Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership has been awarded $20,000 to fund its youth mentoring program across the state after being chosen as one of 52 winners in the Tom's of Maine "50 States for Good" community giving program.

The funding will help to provide more children with the benefits of having a mentor and also close the mentoring gap.

“It is difficult to describe just how excited we were when we learned that RIMP would be Rhode Island’s recipient of the Tom’s of Maine 50 States for Good grant. Thanks to Tom’s of Maine, this crucial funding will help us recruit, train, and match more mentors with the children in our community who need one.  Recently the gap between the number of children being served by mentors in our state and those who could benefit from one was estimated at more than 40,000 children.  With the help of Tom’s of Maine, and our other supporters, RIMP is committed to reducing that number," said Jo-Ann Schofield, President and CEO of the Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership.

Tom's of Main has given 10 % of profits back to the community since 1970 and encourages employees to use %5 of paid time off to volunteer each year. This year, Tom's of of Maine received almost 10,000 submissions from community members across the country by using the #onewaytohelp on social media. One entrant from each stat was selected to designate a local non profit in their area.

“This year’s nonprofit recipients bring to life an inspiring picture of the care that Americans have for each other and their communities. People often think giving back to their community is time intensive, and we wanted to show there are easy ways to make a difference, like raising awareness for a cause you love and supporting brands that strive to make the world a better place for future generations," said Susan Dewhirst, goodness programs manager at Tom's of Maine.
