VIDEO: RI's Farrelly Wins Best Picture with Green Book, Wins Two Oscars

Green Book won Best Picture at the 2019 Oscars. The movie was directed by Cumberland, Rhode Island native Peter Farrelly -- who also won for Best Original Screenplay. 

Farrelly thanked Rhode Island in his acceptance speech.

‘Green Book’ stars Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali as they travel through the south in 1962. Ali took home best supporting actor.  In his acceptance speech, Farrelly spoke about the significance of the film.

The film beat out ‘Black Panther,’ ‘BlacKkKlansman,’ ‘The Favourite,’ ‘Roma,’ ‘A Star is Born’ and ‘Vice.’

‘Green Book’ was also nominated for five awards at the Golden Globes, winning best screenplay, best motion picture, and best supporting actor.
