WaterFire Announces Details for the August 17 #TechFire Lighting

WaterFire announces schedule for August 17 lighting.
WaterFire Providence has announced the details for the full lighting that is set to take place on Saturday, August 17.

The WaterFire is sponsored by Virgin Pulse, Tufts Health Plan, and Bryant University and will include a job fair.

“This 2nd annual event will include prominent guest speakers from across the technology industry, a job fair featuring both established tech companies and startups that are actively hiring in Rhode Island, and a chance to network with executives, entrepreneurs, community leaders, local university officials, and other influencers who are driving the future of our state’s technology ecosystem,” said Rajiv Kumar, M.D.Chief Medical Officer & President, Virgin Pulse Institute.

The #TechFire Job Fair will open at 6:00 pm on Steeple Street and there will be a Martial Arts Festival starting at 5:00 on the Waterplace Park Basin Stage.

Sunset is at 7:43 pm.

The fires will be lit shortly thereafter and burn until midnight.

The Job Fair

The job fair will feature businesses such as Virgin Pulse, Bryant University, e-Money, United Natural Foods Inc. (UNFI), Eagle Picher Technologies, Software Quality Associates (SQA), Dassault Systèmes, Bridge Technical Talent, HCH Enterprises, Ximedica, Rhode Island College, Back Pocket Resources, and nonprofit partners Tech Collective, Providence Public Library, Institute of Entrepreneurship & Leadership (IEL), Apprenticeship RI, Year Up RI, and Skills for Rhode Island’s Future.

WaterFire Signature Performers & Attractions will include:

  • At the World War I monument in Memorial Park, Ten31 Productions will return with their interactive living statues and gargoyles in Memorial Park shortly after lighting.
  • On Washington Street, the living statue Lily the Lady White from A Silent Soapbox will be interacting with the crowd.
  • Two marvelous fire dancers from Cirque de Light will dazzle the crowds during several performances throughout the evening at the confluence and on the wall of braziers in Memorial Park.
  • Origami Master Andrew Anselmo will delight the crowd in Market Square (near the RISD auditorium).
  • Sidewalk Astronomy will offer visitors the opportunity to learn about the stars and planets in the sky. Stop by their learning lab on the riverwalk near College Street.

 

WaterFire Remaining Schedule

There are 5 full fire dates and 1 partial fire date remaining for the 2019 season: August 17, September 1 (partial lighting), September 14, September 28, October 5, and November 2.
