Weekend Edition

It's been quite a week, and that means Weekend Edition not only has great things to do this hot summer weekend, but reflections on a weekful of news.

Let's start with LeBron James. Our own Scott Cordischi, who's been writing about the Cleveland star's move to Miami and taken James to task for abandonment, has got more perspective on the move and the fallout. Read what Scott's got to say next.

And while we're still all talking about vodka eyeballing, the candidates have been revving up and stirring up controversies. We've been on Gina Raimondo all week about her potential conflicts of interest; now, this weekend, she takes some time to talk in an op-ed piece about what she'd do, as General Treasurer, to make RI families more financially independent.

We've also got the latest on the sniping between Governor Carcieri and Patrick Lynch on the legislation that gave the go-ahead to Deepwater Wind to develop its offshore windfarm. Read here how it's getting a bit personal. And speaking of Lynches, Bill Lynch has accused his Congressional primary rival, David Cicilline, of taking a "joy ride" on a fire boat on July Fourth. Read about it here.

Ready for some summer fun? We've got a must-save list of the season's best concerts, from bachata this weekend to Kenny Loggins and the Pops on Labor Day, plus a feature on the Beer Garden weekly concerts in Kennedy Plaza. We've also got a story about the best food tour going... every week in the Blackstone Valley. And yes, those lycra-clad superathletes are back in-state... it's time for RI's Ironman 70.3 triathlon. Read about it right here, and try to catch them swimming, biking, and running, from Narragansett to Providence. Also, we've got great advice on how downsizing your lifestyle can work in any home. It's just what you need to know.

Finally, the World Cup is coming to a close with the finals this weekend (Netherlands-Spain), and our own Marques Coleman, whose video of RI's own American Outlaws has been a Youtube sensation, has a preview of all the action. We'll miss the Cup. And the parties at Spats.

Happy weekend, Rhode Island!
