About Incident

"The lifeguard chairs at Lincoln Woods close at 6 PM. A 911 call came in at 6:13 PM — so the incident happened at some point between 6 PM and 6:13 PM,” said RI Department of Environmental Management spokesperson Mike Healey on Monday.

“Going into Olney Pond to retrieve a ball, the boy, 15, went out past the swimming area ropes. An off-duty lifeguard heard the commotion, jumped in, swam out, pulled the boy up (because he had submerged), and swam him into shore,” said Healey.

“The lifeguard administered CPR, both compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. The boy vomited. At some point around 6:45 PM, Lincoln Fire and Rescue transported the boy to Hasbro, where he is being treated,” said Healey.

“The boy is in critical condition at Hasbro Children’s Hospital and we are hoping for the best,” he said.
