NEW: ACLU Challenges School Prayer Mural

The ACLU asked Cranston in July 2010 to remove the prayer banner because it goes against the separation of church and state, and violates the First Amendment. It is basing that charge on the fact that the mural message begins with "Our Heavenly Father" and concludes with "Amen."
The Cranston School Committee voted on March 7 to keep the banner on display, by a 4-3 margin, arguing that it is a non-denominational message.
