Anti-Police Wine Bar in Downtown Providence at Center of Kerwin Controversy Moves

Fortnight — the controversial, anti-police wine bar in downtown Providence, has moved across downtown.

A “For Lease” sign was posted in the window of its now-former location on Thursday, in a building owned by former Providence Mayor Joe Paolino.

Now, Fortnight has moved from the corner of Dorrance and Weybosset to a newly rehabbed building at 187 Mathewson Street.

Center of Police Controversy

GoLocal was first to report that one of the owners was arrested for spraypainting “ACAB” - All Cops Are Bastards — on the side of City Hall during riots in the city in June, which saw nearly 100 businesses vandalized across the city.

Fortnight had also posted "ACAB" signs in its windows.

Then in July, Providence Councilwoman Kat Kerwin interjected herself into a situation with the police at Fortnight, when neighbors complained about loud music being played at the bar.

As GoLocal first reported

Kerwin told police that downtown neighbors should “f—king get over it,” after a complaint was made about loud music at a bar — that was not licensed for entertainment.

“Fortnight is a casual, experimental wine bar with a love for all things delicious and well-made,” said the bar, which described itself as a “workers’ cooperative.”
