Bette Midler, Star of Hocus Pocus 2 in RI, Calls West Virginia “Poor, Illiterate & Strung Out"

Bette Midler, one of the stars of Disney’s “Hocus Pocus 2” filming in Rhode Island, found herself in hot water this week, and not of the cauldron kind. 

After West Virginia Democratic Senator Joe Manchin officially derailed President Joe Biden’s signature “Build Back Better” legislation right before Christmas, Midler had some choice words for the moderate Democrat — and his state. 

“What #JoeManchin, who represents a population smaller than Brooklyn, has done to the rest of America, who wants to move forward, not backward, like his state, is horrible. He sold us out. He wants us all to be just like his state, West Virginia. Poor, illiterate, and strung out,” Midler Tweeted on Monday.

She later Tweeted a partial apology. 

“I apologize to the good people of WVA for my last outburst. I’m just seeing red,” she Tweeted, adding Manchin and his family “are a criminal enterprise.”

“Is he really the best WV has to offer its own citizens?” she added in her Tweet.
