Brazilian Studies Assoc. Exec. Director Green to to Speak at Committee on Foreign Relations Meeting

Brazilian Studies Association executive director James Green will be the guest speaker at the upcoming Providence Committee on Foreign Relations meeting.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 10 at 6 p.m. at the Hope Club in Providence.

Green will talk about the political and economic forces that have led to the election of Brazil’s new president, Jair Bolsonaro.

About Green

Green is one of the leading experts on Brazil that is home to 208 million people and has the eighth- biggest economy.

Green lived in Brazil for eight years, and is executive director of the Brazilian Studies Association.

Professor Green, who teaches at Brown, is the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Professor of Latin American History and director of Brown’s Brazil Initiative, and Distinguished Visiting Professor at Hebrew University, in Jerusalem.

Green served as the director of the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies at Brown from 2005 to 2008.

He was president of the Brazilian Studies Association (BRASA) from 2002 until 2004, and president of the New England Council on Latin American Studies (NECLAS) in 2008 and 2009.
