Governor Dan McKee has won a four-year term as Governor of the State of Rhode Island.
GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTWith 99% of polling places reporting, McKee had 203,905 votes -- good for 57.8% of the vote and an overwhelming victory over Republican Ashley Kalus who finished with 137,677 votes and 39%.
McKee has served nearly two years as governor after Gina Raimondo was named U.S. Secretary of Commerce by President Joe Biden.
He had a difficult path to election to a full four-year term, overcoming four opponents and two credible challengers in the Democratic primary - former corporate CEO Helena Foulkes and Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea. McKee won the primary with just 32.8% of the vote.
McKee came from small-town mayor to now having a four-year term to develop his agenda.
In his first 18 months in office, he piled up a number of major accomplishments. He took Rhode Island’s vaccination rate from worst to first and helped Rhode Island achieve record-low unemployment.
