Bus Driver, Monitor, and Six Students Taken to Hospital After Bus Hits Sinkhole in Providence

Six students — and a bus driver and monitor — were taken to the hospital after a school bus hit a sinkhole in Providence. 

About Incident

Shortly after 8 AM on Friday, police were sent to 41 Marietta Street — off of Charles Street — for a report of a safety hazard.

Police were informed that a school bus was stuck in a sinkhole. 

Upon arrival, police met with the driver who said she was driving her usual route when the front left tire of the bus went into the sinkhole.

The driver — a female in her 50s — complained of pain in her ribcage area and was transported to the hospital.

The bus monitor complained of pain to her shoulder and was taken to the hospital.

Six students were transported to Hasbro Hospital with unspecified injuries. 

Police say none of the injuries were serious.
