Cranston Buying Power to Help Manage Energy Costs for Small Businesses

Cranston Mayor Allan Fung will meet with representatives from Cadence Science on February 15th to officially introduce "Cranston Buying Power" -- a new program designed to help small and medium sized businesses minimize energy costs. The program will allow smaller businesses to build and join electricity and natural gas purchasing pools with some of the area's largest local energy buyers -- a move that will give them access to expert procurement advice and bulk purchasing rates.

Most businesses purchase electricity and natural gas from National Grid at utility-generated costs, and are unaware that other options exist. With "Cranston Buying Power," businesses will have the ability to choose their supplier and buy energy for rates lower than what the utility offers.

"The city has closely monitored the success of a buying program in Boston and knew the time was right for Cranston to initiate a similar program," said Mayor Fung. 

The meeting will take place at 10 a.m. at 2080 Plainfield Pike in Cranston. Also in attendance will be Taylor Consulting and Contracting -- a national utility management firm -- who the City has selected as an energy partner to design, implement, and operate the program.
