Cumberland Couple's Deaths Ruled Murder-Suicide By Police

Cumberland Police Chief Matthew J. Benson announced an update on Friday on the deaths of Courtney and Eric Huard.

According to Cumberland Police, "a thorough investigation of the facts and circumstances by Cumberland Police detectives, working with the Rhode Island State Police, Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha’s office and the Office of State Medical Examiners, has determined that Courtney Huard, age 42, was the victim of a domestic homicide and was fatally shot by her husband Eric Huard, age 51."

Courtney was a 1998 graduate of Cumberland High School. She graduated from URI with a Bachelor's Degree in Science for Nutrition and Dietetics in 2003, and a Master's Degree in Nutrition from URI in 2006.

And, she was the owner of True Self Nutrition LLC of Cumberland and Providence. 

The investigation has also determined that Eric Huard subsequently fatally shot himself, according to police.

He was employed as lineman for National Grid for the past five years. He was previously employed as the Aquatic Athletics Director at the MacColl YMCA facility for 19 years in Lincoln. He also worked at the Pawtucket Times as a photographer.

“I would like to recognize the diligent efforts and collaborative approach of Cumberland Police detectives, the Rhode Island State Police, Attorney General Neronha’s office and the Office of State Medical Examiners,” Benson said. “We are reminded that there are three children who lost their parents, and two families that are devastated by the loss of their loved ones. Our thoughts continue to be with them at this time.”
