#17 Portsmouth

This community on Aquidneck Island has a very rich history since its settlement in 1638. It was here where British Commander-in-Chief, General Prescott, was captured by the daring Rhode Island colonel William Barton during the Revolutionary War. #16 North Kingstown

North Kingstown is one of the few communities in Rhode Island that combine small waterfront villages and military/industrial sites with historic homes. #13 Charlestown

#3 Cranston

Settled in 1638 by a few of Roger Williams' acquaintances, the Pawtuxet Purchasers, Cranston is the state’s third largest city and a major commercial and industrial area. Similar to its neighbor, Warwick, Cranston’s early development arose from burgeoning textile and manufacturing plants located along the Pawtuxet River.
