He has proven to be able to raise money, although by no means has he been in the past been a mega-fundraiser like a Gina Raimondo.
However, there is no reason to run, if he cannot answer the Trump questions.
Here are a few sample questions about the former President that Fung needs to answer in order to win:
Did Joe Biden win and was it a fair election (one would think Fung believes the 2020 elections were fair as his wife beat Speaker of the House Nick Mattiello handily)?
What was Donald Trump’s role in the January 6 domestic terror attack on the U.S. Capitol?
Do you support the investigation by House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack?
These are a sample of the questions Fung needs to answer -- and answer clearly and convincingly. Not duck and weave, and not refuse to respond to.
The second congressional is clearly more moderate where a majority of communities went for Trump in both 2016 and 2020.
Biden still won the district, but a popular Republican with strong name recognition and money could be the front runner after a bruising Democratic primary.
Fung must run as a moderate — an old school Rhode Island Republican like John Chafee, Ron Machtley, and Claudine Schneider.
Even Buddy Cianci first ran for Mayor of Providence in 1974 as a moderate reform Republican.
There is only one Republican who was not a moderate who has won a statewide or congressional seat in the last 60 plus years -- Don Carcieri a conservative, who won the governorship twice.
Fung, who had trouble answering the most basic questions about his opinion of Trump in 2018, cannot possibly avoid these issues in 2022 as a candidate for Congress.
