EDITORIAL: Hey, PawSox, Don’t Let the Turnstile Hit You On Your Way to Worcester

For the past three years, you threatened, cajoled, blackmailed and fabricated reasons to try and force Rhode Islanders to give to $100 million to $150 million to keep the team in the state.
Billionaire owners do not need or deserve public subsidies of $100 million plus.

Your new narrative is, "Rhode Island, we still love you."
The PawSox claim is as fickle as a Tim Wakefield knuckleball.
Chairman Larry Lucchino says, “In our remaining two years at McCoy Stadium, we are creating new initiatives to make it even easier for families to enjoy PawSox Baseball and to ensure that children have undeniable access to the ballpark."
Now, here is the most insufferable part, “And in 2021 and beyond, when we play at the other end of the Blackstone Valley, we intend to continue to support the vital charities of Pawtucket and Rhode Island—for we are one region united in a love of the Red Sox.”
Maybe, just maybe, it is time for the team to start its WooSox experience a little early -- there are a couple of options up in Worcester, where let's face it, you've made your bed.
There is Fitton Field at Holy Cross and there must be a Benedict Arnold Stadium that you can spend the next two years. Remember, the PawSox brass for years claimed McCoy was too decayed and unsuitable for the team. Better get packing.
You are trying to hustle up as many tickets as possible. Do we need to pull the 2015 talk radio tapes when your PR person Pattie Doyle ripped Pawtucket up one side and down the other -- but it's fine for paying customers in 2019?
Rhode Island was good to you for 50 years. You decided to reject offers of $50, $60 and $70 plus million, but please stop with the pathetic emotional appeal.
Time to move along, and please, don’t let that turnstile hit you in the rear on your way up Route 146.
