EDITORIAL: Surprise! Aaron, We Are Buying You a Congressional Seat

OMG, Aaron Regunberg has the best family in the world.

His mom and his dad-in-law surprised him by creating a Political Action Committee.

(Seriously, Regunberg claims that he had no idea that they were creating a PAC to support his campaign for Congress).

Then, his loved ones pumped $130,000 into the PAC as of June 30.

The PAC was a surprise!

That is what we are being told with a straight face.

Regunberg campaign spokesperson Matt DaSilva said in a statement to GoLocal, “There are a lot of outside vehicles that are spending heavily in this race for different candidates. In Congress, Aaron is committed to fighting to ban outside spending. Our campaign was not expecting this effort, and there is no coordination taking place. We are grateful for support from a wide range of Rhode Island groups and elected officials.”

Wow, what a family.

Not only does Aaron have a trust fund, but now, he gets the gift of a PAC.

Aaron Regunberg’s families are rich. His dad-in-law is really rich; you can watch him on CNN Europe to catch him on why his fund invests in Russia or talking about Trump’s tax cuts. The firm has a tad under $300 billion under management.

Regunberg’s dad-in-law Jim Cielinski. He is the 1% of the 1%. And, good old dad-in-law's firm has its own complexity.

The donation of $125,000 to the PAC supporting Regunberg is the change of the top of his dresser.

Creating a PAC for his deserving son-in-law is just a sign of love for Aaron.

The incredible story of “no coordination” between Regunberg, the candidate, and his mother and father-in-law is an incredible tale.

The story is worthy of memorialization — it could be a book and might even be a bestseller for best fiction.

Regunberg claims he is the candidate for the downtrodden, the little person, the poor.

But too often, Regunberg’s world is one of privilege — trust funds, Ivy League degrees, and access to fabulous wealth.

There have been politicians who were credibly committed to the plight of the poor, but Aaron Regunberg is no Eleanor Roosevelt.
