Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza has not visited injured firefighters in area hospitals following two major fires in the city last Thursday, according to the union head.

Multiple firefighters were treated for cyanide exposure, and one was treated for cardiac issues, after a five alarm fire on Eaton Street followed by a four alarm fire on Laurel Hill Avenue on Thursday.

Captain Joseph Fontaine remains hospitalized in stable condition on Monday, according to Providence Firefighter Union President Paul Doughty.

Mayor at Fires, Not There Following

When asked if Elorza had visited with the injured firefighters following the fires, including one by Providence College that spread over three houses -- and threatened more -- Doughty said, "No."

The Mayor's Office did not respond to request for comment when asked if he had visited with the injured firefighters.

Doughty had questioned the Mayor's appearance on the scene on Thursday.

"He had a chief's coat -- is he playing chief today?" asked Doughty last Thursday. "It's absolutely political. He shows up at the high profile fires.  And we're on the gravy train?  We haven't seen him since the Textron fire."
