West Warwick resident Paula Senerchia Broady exclusively shared photos and videos from the rescue effort aboard the “Sun Princess” - the cruise line’s largest ship to date, with 21 total decks, 15 passenger decks, and a capacity of approximately 4,300 guests and a crew capacity of 1,500.

Accounting for the time difference, Broady provided the following to GoLocal:

“We were supposed to be in Istanbul by 7 AM, but [as of 5 AM] we are still out at sea,” said Broady, after capturing the rescue efforts.

“After it happened, they shut everything off, AC, engines, music, so people could go on decks to listen in case they yelled for help,” said Broady. “[It was] very intense.”

It marks the first time the ship has had a “man overboard” incident, she says she was told.

Bready provided GoLocal with a copy of the communications from the ship’s captain to the passengers.

“We are deeply saddened to confirm that a crew member was first reported to have gone overboard while en route to Istanbul,” he said, adding that “despite extensive efforts, the crew member has not been found.”

Broady, who says she is a regular cruiser, says she has never encountered a man-overboard situation.

“They eliminated our stop in Mykonos, going straight to Athens,” she told GoLocal.

The “Sun Princess” is currently operating a 14-night sailing from Barcelona, Spain, to Athens, Greece, which embarked on August 9, 2025.
