GoLocal has learned from court documents filed in Massachusetts federal court that former U.S. Marine Christopher Aubin, who is an alleged Ponzi schemer, is now subject to a previously undisclosed criminal investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Rhode Island.

In May, GoLocal reported that the federal agents had raided the home of Aubin and his girlfriend, Ashley Corcoran.

That same day, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a civil complaint against Aubin, Corcoran, and, later, added to the case, Rhode Island businessman Russell Miller, Jr..

That SEC action is ongoing.

New Criminal Investigation

Now, it has been disclosed that the federal legal action has expanded to a criminal investigation.

In a filing before Federal Court Judge F. Dennis Saylor, IV, relating to the SEC charges, Aubin’s lawyer, Boston-based Stephen Frank, requested a new extension to a pending deadline to answer the government’s complaint, citing:

The Defendants request this extension in light of a pending criminal investigation concerning related matters by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Rhode Island.

The Defendants have conferred with Plaintiff, and Plaintiff has indicated that it assents to a continuance of the answer date to allow for the resolution of a motion to stay.

Aubin - And Maybe Others

What is not known is the scope of the federal criminal investigation. Presently, the only person identified is Aubin, and that disclosure was made by his own attorney.

According to the SEC in its civil action, Aubin scammed 20 investors out of millions.

Those investors lost $2 million or more.

The alleged victims include former Marines, small business owners, and retirees.

Each thought they were investing with Aubin, and he promised high returns. But in reality, Aubin was spending money on luxury cars, charter flights, and European travel.

The exploits were first unveiled by GoLocalProv in September of 2024.
