Joshua Teverow, a Providence attorney who, as GoLocalProv exclusively reported, is cooperating with the US Attorney's Office as part of the Speaker Gordon Fox investigation, may be little known to the public, but is well-known as a donor to many of Rhode Island's most prominent politicians.

According to GoLocal's review of federal and state campaign finance reports, Teverow and his wife Cheryl (the Teverows divorced in February of 2014) have donated under $40,000. His donations are almost entirely to Democrats - only Lincoln Chafee ($1,000 when he was a Republican) and GOP Lt. Governor candidate Catherine Taylor ($150) scored donations from the Teverows.

Among the Teverows' favorites were David Cicilline who received $9,375 in state donations and an additional $750 to Cicilline's Congressional campaign for a total of $10,125.

As GoLocal reported earlier after securing a copy of a letter from Joshua Teverow’s attorney Patrick J. Quinlan to PEDP counsel, Teverow is seeking attorney fees and indemnification from PEDP. In the letter, Quinlan writes, “I have been advised by the U.S. Attorney’s office that Mr. Teverow is not a target or a suspect in the investigation. Rather, he is a “friendly” witness who’s being asked to testify before the Federal Grand Jury about his work for the PEDP on this matter.”

Donation to Top Democrats

This year's star Democrats have received tens of thousands from the Teverows. Beyond Cicilline, Gubernatorial candidate Gina Raimondo received $2,375 from the Teverows, who also gave $1,100 in state donations to Sheldon Whitehouse, $1,200 to U.S. Senator Jack Reed, and $750 to Congressman Jim Langevin.

Elorza and Cianci

The Teverows have not donated to any of the Mayor candidates this election cycle, but in 2000 Joshua Teverow gave $500 to then Mayor Vincent Cianci and he has been a donor to two of Elorza's biggest supporters Michael Solomon and Myrth York. Solomon received $825 from Teverow and York received $100.

Fox Donor

While Teverow is emerging as a critical cooperating witness for the US Department of Justice in the Fox investigation, he was also a donor to Fox. While Teverow was sub-contracting legal work to Fox for work relating to closing PEDP loans, he donated a total of $1,825 to Fox while he was Finance Committee Chair, Majority Leader and Speaker of the House.

As GolocalProv reported, on March 22, "Law enforcement officials raided the office and home of Speaker of the House Gordon Fox on Friday morning as part of a joint investigation by the U.S. attorney's office, the FBI, IRS and Rhode Island State Police."

Following the raid, the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Rhode Island confirmed that there was an ongoing law enforcement matter, but did not confirm an investigation into Fox.

"I'm not going to offer any comment at all, but to confirm the obvious, that there is a federal and state law enforcement presence at the State House in an ongoing law enforcement matter," said Jim Martin with the Office."

Rhode Island Campaign Finance - Donations by Joshua and Cheryl Teverow

EDITOR'S NOTE: The total of Joshua and Cheryl Teverow's donation as a couple were $36,000.  The donations from Cheryl Teverow post February of 2004 were after their divorce. Cheryl's donations after from 2004 totaled just over $3,000 to both state and federal candidates.
