Saturday at 6:00 pm, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) Office of Emergency Response was called to the scene of an overturned gasoline tanker truck on the Allens Avenue ramp to I-95 North in Providence.

The truck contained 11,000 gallons of gasoline and leaked onto the roadway.

According to DEM, "the cleanup is underway and our team is using several methods to contain and remove the gasoline. Foam has been deployed on the roadway and the DEM responders are working on a plan to contain the gasoline and other chemicals from impacting the river. Vacuum trucks are on the scene to pump the gasoline from the road and catch basin. The spill has been contained; crews will then move to the truck, securing and safely removing the truck."

The public is advised to avoid the area as the cleanup continues. There is no concern about vapor, and gasoline evaporates quickly, but it is highly flammable, and until the spill is contained, the area will remain cordoned off.
