GoLocal reported on Monday that there were growing reports that Rhode Island native and URI grad General Michael Flynn would be exonerated after new information is disclosed.

Now, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that “A federal judge on Wednesday unsealed new documents in former national security adviser Mike Flynn’s criminal case that his lawyers say are evidence the government tried to set him up in a 2017 interview that led to his departure from the Trump administration and subsequent indictment on a charge of lying.”

“The documents consist of two redacted email exchanges as well as one page of handwritten notes by an unidentified official that appeared to involve Federal Bureau of Investigation preparations for Mr. Flynn’s interview. In the handwritten notes, which are dated Jan. 24, 2017—the day of the Flynn interview—the author writes: ‘What is our goal? Truth/Admission or to get him to lie, so we can prosecute him or get him fired?’” writes the WSJ.

This is just the latest twist in a three-plus-year odyssey of Flynn, who rose to the highest level of President Donald Trump’s administration when he was named Trump's first National Security Advisor and occupied an office just feet away from the President in the west wing of the White House.

“The unsealed documents were discovered as part of a Justice Department review of the Flynn case ordered by Attorney General William Barr. They were released as part of a legal effort by Mr. Flynn’s lawyers to get the case dismissed against the former Army Lieutenant General. It could also ultimately win Mr. Flynn a pardon from President Trump,” added WSJ.

On Monday, GoLocal reported that Fox News' Maria Bartiromo said sources told her Flynn will be “completely exonerated” this week — and Trump shared the news.

Bartiromo on Sunday Tweeted:

Breaking News: sources tell me @GenFlynn will be completely exonerated this week.  It was a total fraud.  A Set up.  More tomorrow @MorningsMaria @FoxBusiness @FoxNews @SundayFutures

Trump then retweeted Bartiromo's Tweet.
