Great White Singer Jack Russell, Station Nightclub Fire Survivor, Dies at 63

Jack Russell, the founding vocalist of the rock band Great White, has died at the age of 63.

The band was performing in Rhode Island at The Station nightclub in West Warwick in 2003, when pyrotechnics ignited acoustic foam and the fire killed 100 people. 

Great White guitarist Ty Longley died and 230 were injured.

Russell, who announced his retirement from touring last month, passed away from multiple system atrophy and Lewy body dementia, Rolling Stone reported.

His death was announced on social media (see below). 

Founded in Los Angeles in 1977, Great White had a platinum-selling 1987 album Once Bitten and a 1989 follow-up, Twice Shy. 

Russell left the group in 1996, but returned in 2001 when it started touring under the name Jack Russell’s Great White.
