NEW: Inappropriate Tweet at Fung Leads to Elorza Staffer Resignation

Cranston Mayor Allan Fung ridiculed a now-former staffer for Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza for trying to call him out on Twitter for his city’s policing.

Except it was the wrong city.

On Tuesday, now-former communications staffer for the city’s planning department Kevin Aherne took a picture of a police cruiser and individuals at an intersection, writing, “Oh Cranston police, criminalizing poverty. @AllanFungRI, Go Fung yourself.”

It was Fung, whoever, who had the final say.

Fung retweeted -- along with Aherne's bio -- the following:

Dear @Jorge_Elorza - Your staff should consult @GinaRaimondo’s campaign on how to properly identify Cranston, the best city in the state.  #NotACranstonPoliceCar #HeardBetterSlamsFromA5thGrader

WPRI.com reported on Wednesday that Elorza accepted Aherne’s resignation — and “apologized to Fung on behalf of the city.”
