Man Robbed and Injured in Providence Trying to Buy Phone From Facebook Marketplace "Seller"

A man told Providence police he was robbed — and injured — while trying to buy a phone from a seller he met on Facebook Marketplace. 

It is the second reported crime of its nature in one week in the city.

About Incident 

On Thursday night, a male in his 20s went to Central Station to report the robbery.

He told police he arranged to meet the purported seller of an iPhone on Providence Street, off of Prairie Avenue.

The victim said he met with the “seller,” and gave him the money.

He said the seller then refused to hand over a phone, and showed the victim he was in possession of a gun. 

The victim said the suspect began to drive off when he was still holding on to the car, at which time he was dragged down the street

He said the next thing he remembers is waking up in the hospital.

Detectives are currently investigating.
