The announcement comes after McKee had until now refused to issue a mask mandate — which Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea, a declared candidate for the 2022 Rhode Island gubernatorial race — had criticized McKee on his position.

Moreover, McKee said he is calling the Rhode Island General Assembly to come back as soon as possible as it pertains to an extension of the Governor’s executive order powers.

On Thursday, McKee announced that there will be an online "back to school" town hall on  Monday, August 23 at 5:30 p.m on RIDE’s Facebook page.
