1. What do you think is the biggest political issue this campaign season in Rhode Island?

The biggest issue is still jobs and the economy and the fact that this state does not have a way of making good decisions at the legislative level. Considering our resources and our location, we should be doing much better.  Truck tolling and the continuing coverup of 38 Studios are symbols of how our government fails us and are very much on peoples' minds.

2. What do we need to do to improve Rhode Island's economy?

The first thing we need is a legislature that makes good decisions and deals intelligently with broad policy issues.  We don't have that. We put all the power in the hands of one person, and our committees do not do thoughtful consideration and deliberation.  This could change.

3. What is the greatest challenge facing Rhode Island as a state?

Underlying all other issues is global warming and sea level rise.  This one issue has by far the greatest potential to hurt future generations.  It is real, it is imminent, and we need to be talking about it.

4. Why are you running for office?

I am running because I believe I have the experience and the skills and the commitment needed to face these difficult challenges.  And because I care deeply about what kind of state and planet we leave to our grandchildren.

5. Who is your inspiration?

I try to follow the inspiration of my dad.  He served in the Navy and worked for the Labor Department and the State Department.  He and his friends fought and won the cold war.  I watched.

Dickinson, a Democrat from South Kingstown, has represented the 35th district in two previous legislative sessions.  Dickinson served from 1973 to 1980 and returned to politics again in 2010.
