I’ve decided I’m going to vote for the candidate who will create a job for everyone who wants one, lower income, property and sales taxes, slash the state budget, bring everyone low-cost health care, provide quality education for every child and wipe out corruption. Hmmmm … I’m sure I’ve left something out … but that’s good for now. Anyone know of a candidate who can fill the bill? Let me know … I’m still searching.
Many people were touting as “Indian Summer” those 80-degree days we had last Friday and Saturday but they were wrong. Why?

Monday was the 25th anniversary of Hurricane Gloria. A once very powerful storm that did some damage here in Rhode Island but produced little rain, arrived on a low tide and weakened considerably from its Category 4 status farther south. Overall another big storm that thankfully never totally lived up to its fanfare.
Weather Trivia Quiz #2: Brrrrr. What is the date (day & year) of the earliest measurable snowfall at T. F. Green Airport in Warwick and how much fell?
Looks like the Patriots will have to score at least 30-40 points a game this season to have a shot at winning. You have to admit that the “defensive guru” bloom is coming off Bill’s rose lately. True believers will tell you that those young guys will just get better and better as the season progresses … but I’m not so sure.
This time of year I get lots of inquiries about when the first frost will occur. Naturally it’s different every year and very dependent on where you live … city, suburbs, country, coast, hills, etc. It can only be described in terms of percentages. In Warwick there’s only a 10% chance of frost before October 7th, a 50-50 chance of frost by October 22 and a better than 90% chance of frost by November 6. I usually figure most of my flowers and veggies will be done in by Halloween, if not sooner.
I still don’t like the looks of the weather pattern setting up from the tropics south of Cuba to Florida and the east coast. The whole area, particularly Florida, looks vulnerable to one or more tropical storms or hurricanes over the next couple of weeks.
RIP … the Red Sox 2010 season. We now have to endure a few months of all that off-season drama, intrigue and manipulation. Will he stay or won’t he? Who’s offering what to whom? Money talks. Only $20 million? I’m being disrespected! Please! When is Opening Day anyway?
Weather Trivia Quiz #1 Answer: While “Indian Summer” is not an official weather term, it is generally considered to be “an abnormally warm spell AFTER the first frost of the season”. Since we have not yet had a frost, those warm days last week were not “Indian Summer”.
Weather Trivia Quiz #2 Answer: October 10, 1979 when a coastal storm dumped 2.5” of snow at T. F. Green, 1.5” in downtown Providence and 4.5” in Foster.
Oooooops … gotta go … the guy running for dog-catcher is at the door … says he will eliminate all taxes, cure cancer, submit a budget of zero dollars … he just may be THE ONE!
