Now going on its third day, a portion of Gano Street was closed to all traffic much of Saturday due to the need to rebuild a retaining wall and protect waterlines.

On Saturday afternoon, Josh Estrella, providence Mayor Brett Smiley’s spokesperson, told GoLocal in an email, “Right now, the City is focused on ensuring that the contractor repairs the retaining wall and fixes the damage to the street under the supervision of the city. This work is expected to be completed this weekend.”

GoLocal repeatedly asked if the developer or the construction firm would be cited for the disruption to Gano Street —it took hours for the Smiley administration to respond.

‘We will determine what other action is needed next week after this initial work is complete. We don’t believe that reporting to OSHA is required related to this incident,” said Estrella.

The owners of the project are two companies, Coastway Management LLC and Power 250 LLC. Those companies are controlled by Bahman Jalili, a Fox Point developer and the former operator of Pizza Pie-er.
