At our monthly union meeting held on Monday, January 18th, 2016 it was decided by a vote of secret ballot by the membership of BUSPA that the membership has no confidence in the leadership of the department. This has been an ongoing issue for many years. This no confidence vote has been talked about for many years.

Over the course of recent months and years, the department has steadily deteriorated in terms of morale, performance, direction, vision and most importantly departmental direction. We have 67 members in our union and  87.5 % voted no confidence. We have expressed our concerns in the forms of grievances and many other forms of communication about members having issues and many of these issues have gone unanswered.

We have monthly Labor/Management meetings where we bring up items of concerns from the membership and these go unanswered and we never receive a response on these matters. It is our goal here at BUSPA to protect the rights contained within our collective bargaining agreement while also looking out for the safety, health and welfare of our members.

With this said, it is determined that the rank and file of the union membership has no confidence in the leadership of the Chief of Police and Deputy Chief of Police.

Respectfully Submitted on behalf of BUSPA Members

BUSPA provided additional information regarding the vote on Wednesday.

"The chief is Mark Porter and the Deputy is Paul Shanley. We are looking to achieve leadership, morale, guidance and a better union/management relationship. We have filed about 50 grievances since 2014 and we have won only 2. This is what is killing morale and so forth with in the department. All good grievances relating to wages, shift issues, management issues And so forth. We have been talking about this for years and finally it came to a head and it happened," said Pace. "This is what the membership wanted."
