Brown President Paxson Named Boston Federal Reserve Director

Brown University president Christina Paxson has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. The Federal Reserve announced the appointment on January 12. 

“The Federal Reserve is an essential institution for ensuring economic security and innovation in the region and the nation as a whole. I am honored to have this opportunity to help guide its efforts to realize the aspirations and advance the well-being of people across New England," said Paxson. 

Paxson was elected to the board by the member banks of the Federal Reserve District, which covers almost all of New England. As a member of the board of directors, Paxson will help oversee the pursuit to promote growth and financial stability in the region from Maine to Connecticut.

Paxson will serve as a "Class B" director, meaning she was elected by member banks to represent the public.

Paxson began her professional career at Princeton in 1986 where she was the founding director of the Center for the Economics and Demography of Aging, supported by the National Institute of Aging. 

In 2000, she found the Center for Health and Well-being, an interdisciplinary research center in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. 

Paxson was named the 19th president of Brown University in 2012, the same year in which she was elected vice president of the American Economic Association. 

Along with being president of Brown, Paxson also is a professor of economics and public policy at the school.
