NEW: Cicilline Issues Statement on Osama bin Laden Death

Congressman David Cicilline issued a statement early this morning saying he joined with other Americans in “celebrating” the death of Osama bin Laden:

“I join the citizens of our nation and freedom loving people around the world in celebrating President Obama's announcement that Osama Bin Laden, the mastermind of more than a decade of attacks on the United States and its allies, including the horrific attacks on our nation on September 11, 2001, is now dead,” Cicilline said.

He added: “The death of this madman and the leader of al Qaeda is an extraordinarily important achievement in the War on Terror, and as we approach the tenth anniversary of the 9-11 attacks, we remember the innocent lives lost that day and the sacrifice and dedication that the brave men and women in our armed forces and intelligence services make every day on our behalf.

“We must remain steadfast in our resolve to bring all of those who are responsible for terror against the United States to justice.”

Earlier this evening, President Obama formally announced that U.S. armed forces had killed bin Laden in a special operation in Pakistan and “taken custody” of his body.
