New City Partnership — Providence With Athlone, Ireland

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley and Councilor Jo-Ann Ryan welcomed top officials from Athlone, Ireland, on Thursday.

Athlone Mayor Frankie Keena and Councilor Paul Hogan came to Providence for a signing ceremony binding the two communities.

 

“Today, I proudly signed a Twinning Agreement with Athlone, Ireland, strengthening the cultural, educational, and economic ties between our two cities. This partnership honors our shared history and paves the way for future collaboration,” said Smiley.

 

Athlone is a town on the border of County Roscommon and County Westmeath, Ireland. It is located on the River Shannon — the population is a little more than 22,000.
