Rhode Island DCYF Discloses Death of 3-Month-Old

Statement by DCYF
On Monday, DCYF released the following statement:
"Pursuant to Rhode Island General Law § 42-72-8(c), the Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF) is disclosing the fatality of a 3-month-old infant. The child and family were open to the Department at the time of the incident.
The incident occurred on April 25, 2025, and DCYF has notified the Office of Child Advocate.
Additionally, Pursuant to CAPTA amendment 42 U.S.C. § 106 (b)(2)(B)(x), DCYF is disclosing the near fatality of a 10-year-old child. The incident occurred on July 31, 2024.
The Department confirmed at a later date that this case was the subject of maltreatment findings and met the criteria of a near fatality.
DCYF notified the Office of Child Advocate. The child and family were not open to the Department at the time of this incident."
Reporting Incidents
DCYF said Monday it could disclose no more information regarding the incidents.
"While confidentiality laws prohibit DCYF from disclosing additional details, we are always disheartened to learn of these incidents," said DCYF.
DCYF added the following:

DCYF’s highest priority is the safety and well-being of all children. Rhode Islanders are required by law to report known or suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to DCYF within 24 hours of becoming aware of such abuse/neglect.
