NEW: Jimmy Fallon Apologizes for Wearing Blackface in SNL Skit

Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon has taken to Twitter to apologize for donning blackface on Saturday Night Live in 2000 to impersonate Chris Rock.

As multiple outlets reported, including BuzzFeed, Fallon found himself at the center of controversy online after the segment “resurfaced online.”

In Rhode Island, a photo emerged in 2018 of RI PBS political show host Jim Hummel in blackface for a “Miami Vice” themed costume from an undetermined time - Hummel issued a statement, but refused to apologize.

Fallon Tweeted the following on Tuesday:

"In 2000, while on SNL, I made a terrible decision to do an impersonation of Chris Rock while in blackface.  There is no excuse for this.

I am very sorry for making this unquestionably offensive decision and thank all of you for holding me accountable."
