NEW: Six RI Vets Honored 70 Years After Pearl Harbor

Six Rhode Islanders will be honored today at a State House ceremony commemorating the 70th anniversary of a “date that will live in infamy.”

Gilbert J. Hawkins of East Greenwich, Ralph N. Churchwell of Portsmouth, Daniel Hunter of Cumberland, Wilmer Stevens of Wakefield, Bernard Creswick of Warwick and Raymond J. Haerry Sr. of East Greenwich – all survivors of the Japanese attacks on Pearl Harbor – will be in attendance. Council House Speaker Gordon D. Fox is also expected to attend.

The ceremony – held jointly by the Permanent Advisory Council to the House Veterans’ Committee, the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, the Rhode Island World War II Commission and the Rhode Island Veterans Council – will take place in the House chamber on the second floor of the State House place at 1:30 p.m.
