New Warwick Mayor Accidentally Turns on City Vehicle's Lights -- And Pulls Over Unmarked Cop Car

The new Mayor of Warwick said that he accidentally turned on the lights in his new city vehicle this week, which in turn caused a motorist to pull over.

That turned out to be an undercover cop.

Warwick Mayor Frank Picozzi relayed the incident that happened on Monday.

"The city provides me with a vehicle which is outfitted with emergency lights, sirens, PA system and police radio. I’m on call 24/7 and they said that I need the ability to respond to emergencies," said Picozzi. "They initially assigned me an unmarked Ford Taurus police special. It was a little rocket ship but having driven a pickup my whole life I was very uncomfortable being in a small vehicle so I traded it in for an Explorer. These vehicles are used and already in the motor pool so it’s not costing the city any additional money."

"Driving home Monday night on the Apponaug bypass the microphone for the PA system fell off its overhead mount. Keeping my eyes on the road I tried to hang it back up but inadvertently hit the button that activates the police lights. It took a few seconds to figure out how to shut them off. Up in the distance a car had pulled over," he continued. "I stopped to apologize and explain and discovered that it was a police officer in an unmarked car. We had a good laugh and I ended up knowing his family."

"So to sum it up -- the Mayor pulled over a cop," he said. "I’m going to search YouTube for how to be Mayor videos."
