Police Arrest Suspect After Multiple Vehicle Break-Ins by Johnson & Wales in Downtown Providence
Providence Police have arrested an individual they believe to be associated with a number of recent vehicle break-ins.
According to police, there had been a number of break-ins on Friendship Street by Johnson & Wales University over the course of the past week.
About Incident
Police say that in conjunction with Johnson & Wales security, they conducted a surveillance operation at the location — and times — the vehicle break-ins had occurred.
On Saturday night, shortly before 11:30 PM, police said they observed a male subject — later identified as Matthew Watson, age 38 — walking up Friendship Street between Franklin and Claverick Streets looking into vehicle windows.
Police said they saw Watson then break several vehicle windows on the street; police apprehended Watson close to the scene.
According to police, when they searched Watson, they found a spring-loaded device used to break windows in his jacket along with a small flashlight.
Watson is being charged with five counts of tampering to a vehicle and six counts of vandalism.
