Prov City Council Members Call for Recall on Ward 3 Election

City Council Member Sam Zurier
Five Providence City Council members have called for a special meeting to schedule a recall on the Ward 3 election.

City Council Members Wilbur Jennings, Jr., Nicholas Narducci, David Salvatore, Seth Yurdin and Samuel Zurier filed a petition with the City Clerk to call for a special City Council meeting to schedule a May 2, 2017 recall election of the incumbent in Ward 3.

The meeting will take place on Monday, March 13 at 12:00 noon at Providence City Hall.

The five Council members believe the special meeting is necessary because of a March 9 letter from the Rhode Island Secretary of State requesting that the Board of Elections meet on March 13 “with the sole purpose of setting Tuesday, May 2, 2017 as the date of the special recall election in Providence’s Third Ward in order to comply with both state law and the City’s charter”

The March 9 letter also says that the Board of Elections meeting will not be necessary “if the Providence City Council were to schedule a meeting for March 13, 2017 to address this matter.”

Yurdin did not respond to a request for comment.
