Providence Among the Worst Cities for Car Accidents, Says Allstate
The 10th Annual “Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report” examined the top 200 metropolitan cities in America to determine each city’s car collision frequency. Providence drivers on average are involved in a collision every 5.4 years, contrasting the safest city – Fort Collins, Colorado – where drivers are involved in a collision every 14.2 years on average.
"A big part of our job at Allstate is to help our customers prevent bad things from happening. With that in mind, our actuaries reviewed millions of records to develop this year's report which presents new data to equip them with better driving awareness tools," said Mike Roche, executive vice president of claims, Allstate. "Allstate is showing drivers that factors like population, a city's density and precipitation may contribute to their driving safety to reveal important lessons on the road."

Providence was not the only New England city to fair poorly in this year’s report, as Worcester, Massachusetts (1st), Boston, Massachusetts (2nd), Springfield, Massachusetts (4th), and New Haven, Connecticut (10th), all placed in the top ten worst cities. The only other city in New England that was ranked – Bridgeport, Connecticut - ranked as the 16th worst city.
Brownsville, Texas, Boise, Idaho, Kansas City, Kansas and Huntsville, Alabama rounded out the top five safest cities.
