Raimondo Orders U.S., RI Flags to Fly at Half-Staff to Honor Victims of Parkland School Shooting

Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo has ordered U.S. and Rhode Island flags to fly a half-staff in honor of the victims of the Parkland School shooting that took place on Wednesday in Florida.

The shooting saw 17 people killed and dozens of others injured when former student, Nikolas Cruz, walked into the school and opened fire. Cruz was arrested about an hour later, according to news reports.

"I pray for the victims of yesterday's shooting in Parkland and their families. I also pray that our nation's leaders finally, finally take action on guns. The lives lost yesterday could have been saved. We owe all American children the opportunity to learn without the threat of gun violence. I will continue to work with my colleagues in government to keep Rhode Island families safe,” said Raimondo.

The flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on February 19.
