Rhode Island College announces Alexander Sidorkin appointed dean of education school
Officials at RIC announced the appointment of Alexander “Sasha” Sidorkin as dean of RIC’s Feinstein School of Education and Human Development.
“Dr. Sidorkin is a distinguished scholar with a strong track record as an educational administrator,” said Ron Pitt, vice president for academic affairs. “He has a deeply thoughtful perspective on teacher education and will be a great asset in our society’s debate and discussion about improvement of teacher preparation and, ultimately, student achievement. We are extremely pleased to welcome Dr. Sidorkin to the state of Rhode Island and the college.”

Born in the Western Siberian city of Novosibirsk, (in the former Soviet Union) Sidorkin tought in his native Russia as an assistant professor at Novosibirsk State Teachers College, a counselor and advisor at the Orlyonok National Children’s Center in Tuapse, and a teacher in Novosibirsk public schools and the Experimental Laboratory School in Moscow.
He served in a range of roles since emigrating to the United States. Sidorkin had been director of the School of Teacher Education at the University of Northern Colorado since 2006. Prior to that, he served as an associate professor at Bowling Green State University for seven years. He was also a research associate at the University of Washington, and a Spencer Foundation postdoctoral fellow at the National Academy of Education.
Sidorkin is the author of five books, including “Labor of Learning: Market and the Next Generation of Educational Reform” (2009). He also has three edited volumes, seven book chapters and has numerous refereed and non-refereed papers to his credit.

According to officials at RIC, Sidorkin received a PhD in education from the University of Washington, and an MA in peace studies from the University of Notre Dame. In Russia, he earned a PhD in education from The Institute for Theory and History of Education in Moscow, and an MA in history and education from the Novosibirsk State Teachers College.
In 2009, he received the Excellence in Academic Leadership Award from the University of Northern Colorado.
