Rhode Island EMT Suspended by the State

The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) has suspended an EMT for failing to properly submit nearly 50 patient reports over a one year period.

The EMT, James H. Williams, Jr., has agreed to a 14-day suspension of his license and additional disciplinary action by the state.

It is rare in Rhode Island for EMTs to be disciplined by RIDOH.

According to RIDOH documents:

On or about May 1, 2023, through May 28, 2024, while employed as a Pascoag Fire Department Firefighter/EMT-Cardiac:

- [Williams] failed to submit forty-seven (47) electric patient care reports (ePCR) after making patient contact.

- [Williams] did not obtain signatures from [sic] designated refusal of care from patient(s) or patient representative.

- [Williams] had junior healthcare provider document twenty-four (24) patient care reports when he was the primary healthcare provider.

 

"[Williams] EMT License shall be suspended for fourteen (14) days as of the Effective Date of this Consent Order. The Effective Date is the date on which this Consent Order is approved by RIDOH.  During the period of Suspension, [Williams] shall not provide emergency medical services in his capacity as a licensed emergency medical technician. Following successful completion of the 14-day suspension, [Williams] agrees to a period of Probation for twelve (12) months…," according to RIDOH disciplinary document.

 

In addition, Williams is required to participate in a range of training and educational programs.
